The National Dinosaur Museum is seeking casual staff (Customer Services Officers) to work as retail assistants and tour guides to provide retail assistance in our gift shop and deliver educational programs as a tour guide.

Tour Guide
- Tour Guides will deliver programs and activities to various audiences, including members of public and schools (primary & secondary)
- Applicants do not require any formal qualifications to become a tour guide (just a passion for dinosaurs will do!)
- Full ‘tour guide’ training will be provided
Retail Assistant
- Our gift shop houses the largest collection of crystals, gemstones, fossils and minerals in Canberra as well as dinosaur themed gifts and the role requires a flexible attitude to splitting time between guiding tours and retail work in the gift shop
- Full ‘retail assistant’ training will be provided

- Conducting day or night tours of the museum
- Hosting and assisting with birthday parties
- Providing retail and customer service in the gift shop
- Flexible work attitude to assist with cleaning and other general duties as required

- A great personality with strong sense of customer service
- A background or knowledge of palaeontology or geology is desirable but not essential
- Applicants must have an interest in dinosaurs or prehistoric life!
- Customer service experience in a retail setting is preferred
- Experience working with children will be highly regarded
- High level communication skills – both verbal and written
- Good time management and organisation skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a small team
- Availability to work some weekdays, weekends and evenings essential – minimum 12 hours per week availability preferred

Retail Manager

The National Dinosaur Museum is currently looking for an energetic and proactive Retail Manager to manage every aspect of the day-to-day supervision and running of the museum’s unique retail outlet, specialising in dinosaur related products, crystals, fossils, minerals and gemstones and natural history items.

The ideal candidate will have some experience in retail or similar, including sales, marketing, staff management, stock, and resources management.
This role will be full time at 38 hours per week. A part time option of minimum 25 hours per week can be considered depending on experience. The role may require working a day on the weekend and after hours.

Manage Canberra’s largest display of crystals, fossils, minerals and gemstones. -
Under supervision,
- Manage all store operations and delegate responsibilities
- Supervise employees, providing coaching and mentorship to optimise productivity and increase sales
- Set and monitor store’s budget, making every effort to maximise efficiency and profits
- Manage appropriate levels of stock and purchases
- Address customer complaints/feedback in a professional manner
- Plan and execute specials and promos, including clearance sales
- Uphold compliance with all legal and WH & S guidelines
- Coach employees whenever requested
- Protect against loss by monitoring security and training staff
- Train, manage, and evaluate staff performance and report back to the General Manager

- Previous history as Retail Manager/Supervisor or in other managerial position
- Working knowledge of POS software systems preferably Lightspeed or similar
- Solid written & verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional organisation, strategic planning, and leadership skills
- Strong style sense and an eye for merchandising
- Familiarity with data analysis and customer traffic principles
Sound computer skills

- Knowledge or interest in gemstones, fossils and minerals
- Some knowledge or interest in dinosaurs/prehistory
- Confidently able to upsell and coach staff in this skill

The National Dinosaur Museum is seeking part time or casual staff to work as tour guides to deliver educational programs and also provide retail assistance in our gift shop.
About the Role
- The Museum is seeking Tour Guides to deliver programs and activities to various audiences, including schools and families.
- Museum staff are busy during school term time providing education programs and presentations to kindergartens, primary and secondary schools.
- During holiday periods staff facilitate tours and activities for families with young children all linked to the Museum’s collection.
- Our gift shop houses the largest collection of crystals, gemstones, fossils and minerals in Canberra as well as dinosaur themed gifts and the role requires a flexible attitude to splitting time between tours and the gift shop
- Full training for tours and retail provided
Duties & Responsibilities

Relevant Skills & Experience
